I love to make wreaths, especially non traditional ones with items purchased at the dollar store or that I find around the house. Most all the wreaths I make cost me less than $5 or $10. This Valentine’s Day DIY Wreath was no exception.
I had purchased the mesh, burlap ribbon, sheer ribbon and flowers at the Dollar Store a couple weeks ago. (I had also bought a small “love” wooden word and some hearts at Michael’s which I did not end up using for this project.) I wanted to do a heart shaped Valentine’s wreath. I originally was going to use a pool noodle and form it into a heart but the only color pool noodles I had here were green which showed through the mesh ribbon.
I decided to use some extra cardboard I had to create a heart shape. I just free handed it then cut the heart out. I decided it needed to be thicker so I cut out a second heart and glued them together. I then cut the center out. I honestly was not that careful, I just tried to keep the sides an even width.
I took the wide mesh ribbon and began wrapping it around the cardboard heart. I overlapped leaving about an inch space. I barely had enough with 1 roll, so the bottom is not covered as well as I would have liked. However, I knew I was going to put the ribbon there so it would not show. I used some hot glue on the back to hold the end piece down.
I made a bow from the burlap wired ribbon and the sheer red ribbon and hot glued it to the center of the wreath. I thought it looked a little empty or unfinished with just the ribbon. I decided to add just 3 of the glitter roses to the wreath. A little more hot glue (and 2 more burnt finger tips…) is all it took.
I then used a little more of the sheer red ribbon to make a ribbon tie to hang it with. I am really happy with how it turned out. The heart isn’t 100% perfect but then again whose heart is?
What do you think of my wreath? I would love it if you would leave a comment below and also share this post. Thank you!
