Healthier Snack Ideas including new Veggie Chips from Green Giant

Trying to lose weight and making healthier eating choices can be difficult.  I think most everyone has cravings for their favorite junk foods from time to time.  Let’s face it, no matter how much you want to lose weight, sometimes a piece of fruit just does not satisfy your cravings.  It can also be hard to eat healthier if you are hosting or attending gatherings with family and friends and everyone else is eating “normal” food.

I am learning how to make healthier, lower calorie and lower fat versions of some of my favorite snacks and sweet treats like this low fast Sloppy Joe Dip made with ground turkey and fat free cheese.  I really do not like many fruits, but I have learned that adding some cinnamon and vanilla or fat free whipped cream helps me enjoy fruit and still keeps it healthier.  Eating smaller portions, regardless of what you are snacking on is also helpful.  Also, when I feel like I may be hungry or craving something, I will drink a glass of water or soy milk and wait at least thirty minutes. This way I can tell if I am really hungry or if I am just having a craving or maybe just thirsty.

There are some snacks that you really just cannot make on your own though. Chips are a great example. I love a certain cheesy flavored tortilla chip that is not the healthiest snack choice if you are trying to lose weight.  I try to just avoid them, but there are times you just need that salty, crunchy snack!

The Sweet Potato Chip with Sea Salt would be great for anyone who loves regular potato chips.  The Zesty Cheddar is my absolute favorite though as it took care of those cravings for my favorite cheesy tortilla chips.

    I have not tried these yet, but they look yummy. I’m on a diet now, and crave salty/crunchy items, to this is a great idea!! I will have to pick some up.

    In the health/taste push and pull, we’ve been getting a lot of dried fruits from Trader Joe’s. Started with the mandarin oranges, which were really tart, then moved on to the permissons, now trying out the Shingo pears. When the kids are eating something else, I just take whatever TJ fruits we have and add it to a salad, which add a nice texture.
