I have been on a new weight loss program for almost 2 full weeks now. I am really happy with my progress so far. I have only “cheated” a couple of times and I have stayed within my daily calorie limit every single day. I have even resisted Girl Scout Cookies, cupcakes & donuts. I have lost over five pounds which is exciting! I haven’t measured yet, I can tell I have lost a couple inches in my stomach already too!
When you have struggled with losing weight and living healthy your entire teen and adult life like I have, making changes to your habits are not easy. I am trying to look at this as a lifestyle change and not just another “diet”. The main reason I want to lose weight is because I do not want to be a hypocrite. I am always trying to encourage and inspire others to live their best life, so I need to be doing that in all areas of my life too!
Living healthier and losing weight really comes down to making healthier choices. No one ever forced me to buy or eat unhealthy foods, to overindulge or to sit on the couch when I could have been working out. Those were unhealthy choices I made. Now it’s up to me to make better choices so I can live a healthier and happier life.
A few of the healthier choices I am working on making include:
- Drinking more water (if you are a soda drinker cut out as much of it as you can too!)
- Eating smaller portions (see this Portion Control Chart from WebMD to learn more about what a healthy portion is of different foods)
- Choosing lower calorie meals
- Preparing meals in advance or having ready to eat, healthier meal and snack options available at all times
- Eating more fruits and vegetables
- Exercising (this goes hand in hand with eating right, you need to burn calories and build muscle to be healthy)
- Getting 7-8 hours of sleep each night
- Thinking positively, surrounding myself with motivational thoughts, quotes and people
No matter how committed you are to losing weight or living healthier, there are always going to be obstacles you will face. Temptations will be around every corner from junk food at the office to birthday parties, sporting events and nights out with friends and family. One of the biggest obstacles I deal with is time, or rather lack of time. I do my best to plan ahead with meals and have healthy foods on hand. However it can be difficult to find time to cook every day. There are also those days where I just do not feel like cooking. Whether you are a busy mom, dad or career oriented gal like I am, life is probably always on overdrive and time is always short.

This way there is always something that is quick, convenient and healthier for me to grab to eat when I am busy or too tired too cook.
